FlexRadio Releases SmartSDR v3.9.18 – New SmartSignal, Analog Meters & More

FlexRadio has released SmartSDR v3.9.18, a significant update for FLEX-6000 and FLEX-8000 series radios, including the Maestro. This version introduces new features and enhancements aimed at improving the user experience and radio performance. In this video FlexRadio’s Mike Walker, VA3MW, explain whats new.

1. SmartSignal™ (Beta):

A new automatic adaptive pre-distortion (APD) feature designed to reduce intermodulation products at the transmitter output. SmartSignal actively analyzes and compensates for amplifier non-linearity in real time, enhancing spectral cleanliness and transmitter performance.

2. Analog Meter Display:

An analog meter option has been added alongside the standard bar meters. Users can select between normal or peak reading versions to monitor signal levels more intuitively.

3. USB Serial Pass-Through:

This feature allows users to connect and control RS-232 serial devices, such as antenna rotators and amplifiers, directly through the radio. It supports both local and remote operations over the internet via SmartLink.

4. Profile Auto-Save Toggle:

Users now have the option to disable the automatic saving of microphone and transmit profiles. When disabled, changes can be manually saved, providing greater control over profile management.

5. Two-Tone Signal Generator:

A built-in two-tone signal generator has been added for testing and calibration purposes. Users can select between single and two-tone signal generation options in the transmit settings.

6. TGXL Integration:

SmartSDR now offers basic control of the Tuner Genius XL (TGXL) directly from the software interface.

🛠️ Bug Fixes and Enhancements

The update addresses several issues, including:

  • Resolved an issue where receive audio would go silent after transmitting with NR and ANF enabled.

  • Improved SmartLink connection security.

  • Fixed panadapter resizing errors that previously led to out-of-memory issues.

  • Enhanced meter ballistics for existing digital meters.

  • Corrected GPS status display inaccuracies on FLEX-8000 series radios.
