FlexRadio Aurora
Introducing the Aurora™ Series—an all-new family of HF/6m transceivers featuring the world’s first truly integrated 500W SDR transmitter. Aurora creates a new category in amateur radio by removing the traditional boundaries between transceiver, amplifier, antenna tuner, and power supply.
What Is Aurora?
The FlexRadio Aurora Series is a high-performance HF transceiver delivering 500W output on the 160–10m HF bands and 200W on 6m. Unlike traditional radios that use a legacy RF exciter followed by a linear amplifier, Aurora uses an advanced transmitter architecture based on Polar Modulation (PM).
This integrated 500W transceiver with built-in automatic antenna tuner (ATU) offers major advantages for operators who value simplicity, efficiency, and clean station design. By combining multiple functions into one unit, Aurora reduces cabling, minimizes potential RFI issues, and simplifies station setup. Integration between the transmitter, ATU, and power system also enables faster tuning, improved protection, and smoother operation.
Aurora also delivers significant performance benefits over conventional transceivers paired with linear amplifiers. Polar modulation is far more efficient than traditional linear amplification, resulting in lower power consumption, reduced heat generation, and a much smaller heat sink. This reduces overall size and weight while improving operating efficiency. It represents one of the most important advances in amateur radio transmitter technology in decades.
By building on the proven architecture of the FLEX-6000 and FLEX-8000 series and maintaining compatibility with SmartSDR, Aurora provides a familiar yet powerful upgrade path for existing FlexRadio operators.

Aurora is proving itself in real-world operation. It has been used successfully by U.S. DX operators and contesters, and it has recently been tested under demanding expedition conditions by the 3Y0K Bouvet Island Expedition and the CY0S Sable Island Expedition.
On April 6, it was announced that RED Cybersecurity testing for Aurora radios had been successfully completed. Shipment of EU pre-orders will begin as soon as CE authorization has been obtained.
